This has been a very fun truck to drive. Its turning radius is better than any other car I’ve driven which for a 4x4 that is great. In the past I have owned a Jeep, Toyota, and Ford Ranger as well as driven many other vehicles off road. The Isuzu Amigo compares very well in hill climbing, and trekking mud and snow with the larger 4x4s I’ve driven.
The biggest problems I’ve had with this vehicle are the heads. The factory heads have a weak spot in them makes them susceptible to blown head gaskets. Once I moved up to an aftermarket head for my Amigo I haven’t had any problems since. Other than the head gaskets I’ve only had to do basic maintenance and it has about 150, 000 miles on it.
The Amigo has a fairly large 4-cylinder engine for the size of the truck, so it does all right pulling small loads like tent trailers or small utility trailers, but it wouldn’t be very good for much more than that. When not pulling a trailer the truck has pretty good pickup, but don’t try to run any races with it.
