I own a four wheel drive 1996 Jeep Cherokee with a 6-cylinder, 4.0 liter automatic engine. I am the second owner of the vehicle, as I bought it used in excellent condition. Jeeps continue to hold their value years after models are released, which contributes to the trusted Jeep name.
The body of my Cherokee is sturdy, with side-impact beams and a crush resistant roof. Wet weather traction is great, and the four wheel drive feature is a blessing in snow and ice. Entering highway ramps and merging with traffic is a breeze with the Jeep Cherokee's superior pick up speed. The weather stripping does not keep out all of the wind noise, although the factory stereo keeps the wind in the background.
The interior offers roomy seats for the driver and passenger, although the back seats can be cramped for adults. Keeping costs to a minimum, the Jeep Cherokee does not offer amenities such as cup holders, lighted mirror visors, and has only one storage space along with the glove compartment.
The Jeep's engine compartment is roomy, which makes repairs easy on the knuckles. The Cherokee is very dependable, roaring to life regardless of the outside temperature. I have always experienced some kind of warning sign before a part in the engine failed. The starter's enthusiasm began to diminish over time, and the serpentine belt whined when the water pump gave out. As such, I have never been stranded on the side of the road.
