My 2005 Saturn Ion is a conservative, happy little car. Its gas usage is modest due to the four cylinder engine. Even though the Saturn is a small car, it has great pick up speed. It has four doors, and fold down rear seats that extend the truck space. The Ion is a great family car that can seat up to five. Taking the baby seat in and out of the car is a breeze.
The Saturn's interior offers power windows, power door locks, cruise control, a rear window defroster, tilt steering wheel, a great sounding factory radio, and easy to reach controls. The Ion's gauges are to the right of the steering wheel, instead of center, which felt awkward at first. The cruise control does not always work. After discovering the seats stain easily, I bought a cover for the kids who always ride in the back.
The Saturn Ion's engine is jammed into its space under the hood. The oil dip stick is unobstructed, but anything else is out of reach. Unfortunately, this car requires a visit to a mechanic for major work. I had an issue removing the key from the ignition a couple of times. I took the car to the dealer and they fixed it right up. For a little car with front wheel drive, the vehicle does surprisingly well with off-road driving. The car's bumpers keep fender benders from becoming major accidents. After being hit in the rear by another car, the Saturn was still drivable and the repair minimal.
